While we can’t raid the bookshelves of those we admire, we can do the next best thing — ask for their top recommendations. It’s one of the best things about Tory Daily’s annual Book Issue. Here, we ask award-winning actress and friend of the brand Julianne Moore all our burning book-related questions.

[Editors’ note: Julianne, you can absolutely join our book club.]

The three books I always recommend are…
Chelsea Girls by Eileen Myles
Martin Dressler, Tale of an American Dreamer by Steven Millhauser
She Said by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey

When I hear “book club” I think…
I want to be in a book club!

My first literary memory is…
My mother teaching me to read.  We sat in a big wing chair together and read a book on earth science.  The first sentence I read by myself was “Mother, mother,” said Bob. “I see a robin.”

The book that I’d most like to see adapted into a movie is…
Theodore Dreiser’s Sister Carrie
