As the Fashion Market and Accessories Director at Self, Dania Ortiz has to know about every kind of exercise gear for every kind of exercise. And then some. Yet when it comes to her own regimen, she sticks to a core group of methods (with a little variety). She also understands that balance and the simple things, especially when it comes to her favorite health snacks and beverages, is the key to a happy, well-lived life.

My favorite sport growing up…
Folkloric Mexican dance. And the dresses were very nice!

I started doing Pilates because…
It’s a full-body workout that helps me to stretch and tone my body.

What I love about it…
It’s a very relaxing way to start or end the day.

Favorite place to do it…
New York Pilates.

My other sport obsessions…
Yoga, spinning and Core Fusion.

My health drink of choice…
Water. It’s my favorite drink. I don’t drink sodas and no Gatorade — too much sugary taste.

And healthy snack of choice…
Chocolate. I don’t do super-diets. I still eat pasta for dinner, but then I really have to work out in the morning. I try to work out four days a week. I try to balance everything. Sometimes my snack is Cheetos or Doritos from the vending machine!

My advice for the Pilates newbie…
Enjoy!

My favorite time of day to exercise…
Usually at 7 AM.

Most interesting exercises and routines I’ve tried as a Self editor…
Floating meditation. It’s equally as important to work your mind as it is your body.

During the four weeks of traveling, late nights and dinners during the fashion shows, I stay fit by…
Drinking a lot of water and walking to my appointments instead of taking taxis.

I define wellness as…
Happiness

My motivation mantra is...
Just do it.
