A year after Foodie Entrepreneur and Food Writer Jemima Jones shared her Insider’s Guide to her native London with Tory Daily, we catch up with her for our special Tunic Issue. Here, the Co-Founder of catering company Tart London talks to us about tomboy style, Pretty Woman boots and a little island called Bequia. #ToryTunic
Relaxed, tomboyish, with concessions to femininity.
And my secret styling trick…
Keep in simple.
First fashion memory…
Wearing my mum’s knee-high boots — when I was around three years old — which I called her hooker boots. On reflection, they were smart flat boots, but with Pretty Woman released that year (1990) I was transfixed by the Julia Robert boots.
Best fashion advice ever received…
To not wear padded bras — from my sister.
I love a great tunic…
For its femininity and forgiveness.
My tip to styling/accessorizing a tunic…
Wear it large with jean shorts or skinny jeans and flats.
My favorite beach getaway in the world…
I was once lucky enough to go to the tiny West Indies island of Bequia (part of St. Vincent and the Grenadines). It really is off-the-beaten track — with very little in the way of tourist-info structure. Lushly forested, one side of the island is remote and wind-swept by the Atlantic, whilst the other is fringed by blissful white beaches and brilliant, calm blue water.
The beauty of Bequia is its pothole roads, little old ladies selling stacked fresh fruit by the roadside and an exquisite harbor town full of tiny ramshackle bars and restaurants that serve surprisingly delicious food
My bohemian icon…
My mother’s mother — she was a legendary beauty with immense style and wisdom.
The color I most love….
Navy blue — it’s smart and stable.
I run Tart London with my business partner and close friend Lucy Carr-Ellison. We are based in Primrose Hill… which is also where I live, with my sister and parents around the corner.
