Jeanne Damas wearing Tory’s Hadley tunic and Loretta velvet platform sandals

For Jeanne Damas, Paris during the holidays is pure magic. The entrepreneur and founder of Rouje tells us why…

To me, the phrase “coming home” means…
Going to my aunt’s home in the mountains of France. The house, originally designed by a well-known architect, has these incredible windows that frame the view of the mountains outside. My aunt is a yoga teacher so we always do some light yoga on the terrace overlooking the mountains in the mornings. Everyone from the family participates, even my grandfather and uncle, which is quite funny to see. The best, though, is sitting down as a big family eating a home-cooked tagine and couscous by the fire.

Home is…
Paris today, and forever. Both of my parents are born in Paris, which is very rare, so the city is very special to me.

And what I love most about it…
The lights during the Christmas holidays — it is pure magic! It really doesn’t get more romantic than bundling up with a chunky sweater, big coat and scarf as you stroll along the bank of the Seine river.

Favorite holiday memory from childhood…
Giving and receiving homemade gifts. Instead of buying new things, we would give something personal, like a photo, painting or ceramics, which we made by hand.

This holiday, I’m grateful for…
The time spent with my family. I travel quite a bit for work, so it is rare I get to see my entire family at once. I love to see how my little cousins have grown up from the year before, which happens all too fast!

My holiday decorations…
Are pretty simple. I love to use white tablecloth, wildflowers, eucalyptus and lots of candles (which are some of my favorite gifts as I collect them and have a few in every room of my home).

My tips for surviving the holiday party season…
Sleeping a lot in December, and staying sober in January!

Favorite part of the holiday season…
Celebrating New Year’s, because I go to Marrakech each year to enjoy the warm weather and get some sun.
