Looking for a quick tip on packing for a beachside escape? Or how about pointers on getaways in Sydney and Sardinia? We chat with the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of the Sydney-based magazine RUSSH, here wearing Tory’s Garden tote, about travel and that all-time summer classic: seaside stripes.

My style is…
Heavily inspired by Woody Allen films.

Here, I’m wearing…
My oldest pair of denim overalls, a Saint James striped top, white canvas Superga trainers and Tory’s Garden tote. It’s quite a Vada Sultenfuss outfit, but I’m just so comfortable in denim.

Stripes are a fashion classic because…
Of Coco Chanel. She took a French uniform and wore it her own way. It’s the signature of French New Wave cinema and worn by everyone from Picasso to Andy Warhol.

My stripes-wearing icon…
There’s a picture of James Dean… I love how seeing him in stripes says so clearly, “This is my private time.” It’s my absolute favorite picture of him.

My dream summer getaway…
Is on a boat. One of my best summer holidays was sailing Sardinia, just six of us on a yacht, with nothing to do but swim, read, listen to music and eat pasta. One afternoon we took the tender for a spin and stumbled upon a place called Porto Rafael — definitely one of the most special places I’ve ever been.

Insider tip to shooting vacation photos…
I can’t pretend to be handy with a camera. Travel with a photographer friend!

My packing strategy…
Just take a carry-on and pack swimmers, lots of white cotton, a striped top and one piece of denim. I buy new sandals so they are in perfect condition for a trip.

My beach bag essentials…
Sunglasses and a good book.

The best beach spots to hit in Sydney are…
North Bondi anytime before 10 AM, Nielsen Park (it’s especially nice in the late afternoons) and nearby Lady Bay Beach — although beware of the nudists.

RUSSH is…
Impossible to define — but when you see it, you know it.
