Los Angeles transplant Rebecca de Ravenel’s childhood, split between Paris and the Bahamas, planted the seeds for a love of two seemingly divergent styles: sophisticated glamour and relaxed bohemianism. Here, the Founder of the traveling trunk show The Goombay Bazaar tells us how she seamlessly incorporates both into her new life on the West Coast — plus she shares tips for making beach living chic.

Favorite beach getaway…
The Bahamas, of course! I live on the Bay and have three swimming dachshunds who are fearless divers and paddleboarders and are always in tow. I particularly love the water in the Exumas — it is magical and crystal clear with deserted beaches. The biggest luxury in the world is to have the beach to oneself. Now that I live in California, Malibu has become my hideaway on weekends, but nothing compares to my beloved Bahamas.

My beach uniform for day…
Multicolored, patterned Indian saris worn as sarongs, with a tucked-in men’s shirt or the new blue and white striped T-shirts from MDS Stripes. Layering and mixing the tons of necklaces I’ve collected from my travels. A straw hat, one of the many straw bags that I collect (I have never met a straw bag I couldn’t live without), natural hair and, of course, bare feet!

And for night…
I am loving Irving and Fine’s new collection paired with a vintage lace skirt. My style incorporates prints, colors and beloved vintage pieces into every outfit. I love mixing and matching patterns — the more, the better!

Favorite beach cocktail…
A fresh chilled coconut with a hint of dark rum.

And beach song…
I am a reggae girl….

The key to entertaining at the beach…
Good music, lots of cocktails and, of course, great company.

And I always use…
Balinese parasols, vintage peacock chairs, blue and white paisley tablecloths, lots of lanterns and candles and a beautiful inviting bar.

The perfect beach hostess gift…

I was just given the most beautiful pale blue and white striped linen beach throw — it fits three and is simply perfect.
