My print-mixing motto…
Be bold! Try and find one color that is similar in both prints, if you are unsure. Mix up textures and prints as well. Stripes are a neutral — mix them with everything (leopard, floral, embellishment, etc.).
My top tips to wearing prints…
As mentioned above, I think stripes are a neutral and a great way to mix back to prints where it is still mixed up and understandable. When mixing prints I tend to wear a more classic bag, i.e. a Chanel or a Mark Cross box bag. Sneakers, heels, sandals — they all work when mixing prints.
For the truly print wary, I’d recommend…
Sticking to smaller format prints (Liberty prints, ditzy florals) on top, and pairing back to a subtle windowpane- or houndstooth-pattern pant or skirt on the bottom.
When getting dressed in the morning, I start with…
What I am doing that day. If I’m running around from meeting to meeting, I’m most likely in flats, a brogue or a kitten heel. If I’m wearing one major piece à la Comme des Garçons or Sacai, then I will likely build around that piece and keep the rest of the outfit more casual to balance it out.
My print-loving icon…
I think Consuelo Castiglioni, from Marni, does an amazing job of mixing prints and textures — her collections are full of hyper-luxe print mash-ups. My good friend Viviana Volpicella also is a print-mixing goddess and always has a beautiful smile on her face. She owns the look!
Leopard with floral, stripes with floral, camo with floral, houndstooth and floral, stripes with everything.
My favorite print for Fall…
I love Dries Van Noten’s romantic burgundy and autumnal hue prints, clashed with pops of bright canary yellow and Schiap pink.
And my all-time favorite print…
I am a serious sucker for stripes, and pretty much any print from Dries.
Lastly, never forget to…
Smile! It’s important to feel comfortable in your clothes and in your looks. So if it doesn’t feel good, switch it up!
