East Coast meets West Coast — that’s the overarching inspiration behind the Spring/Summer 2017 collection. Here, Tory breaks down the major trends from the West Coast side.
Bohemian Rhapsody
“Our West Coast looks have a much more casual, bohemian vibe — they embody the ease of dressing. We paired silk shirts with board shorts; we had effortless silhouettes with ties at the shoulders — it’s almost as if the dress is falling off the body. As for the tangerine tones and different shades of orange, paired against blue, they were inspired by sunsets in Malibu…”
Feeling Crafty
“The details speak back to this bohemian idea: batik prints, fringed macramé, multicolor rickrack, cowrie shell embellishments and laces that tie at the shoulder. We thought about hippie surfers and Seventies free spirits…”
Petal Power
“Florals were a theme throughout the collection. For East Coast, we had some beautiful oversized garden roses. For West Coast, we mixed the prints — I love the idea of pairing prints that don’t necessarily go together, like the micro-florals we graphically engineered on crop tops, loose pants and billowing dresses.”
