In the spirit of spring and turning new leaves, we caught up with
cult-favorite lifestyle coach Daphne Javitch of Doing Well
to talk healthy recipes and
the easy improvements we all could make.
What you do…
I'm a holistic nutritionist — a listener and a guide. I
teach
clients how to optimize their daily nutrition and lifestyle in order to achieve their wellness
goals. Together we establish and practice a doable, enjoyable and rewarding routine that's intended
to be sustainable far beyond our time together.
A typical day…
Ha! I have a newborn. A typical day is staring at him, airing out my
nipples
and realizing I'm still wearing my sleep mask at 4 pm. Here's a pre-baby day: I wake up,
have a light fresh breakfast and touch base via email with all my clients. I leave the house every
morning to work out. When I get back, my loft is my office, and I do private client sessions. I fix
lunch between or after my sessions and in the late afternoon I usually do research, listen to
podcasts, have consults with potential clients or meet a friend for tea. Most nights, my husband
Pali and I cook dinner, and if we don't have company, we watch Seinfeld or a movie.
One easy adjustment everyone could benefit from…
7–9 hours of sleep nightly
One thing to eliminate for better health and happiness…
Negative self-talk
Something you’ve learned from your clients…
They have given me insight into what really works, what the challenges
are,
the built-in excuses we all grapple with, the emotional roots of our choices and the glory of
improvement and vibrancy. I love my clients. This can be deep, connected work... I'm known to cry at
the last session.
Favorite health resource…
Gil Jacobs, my mentor and teacher. A true radical!
Favorite green foods…
I love salads and fresh veggies. A day without salad feels like an
internally
sluggish day! In the summer months, I love chopped fresh veggies — bell pepper, cucumber,
fennel, radish — with lime and pink salt. Crunchy and fresh! Sautéed kale and steamed
broccolini are also favorites.
Favorite green juice or smoothie…
Cucumber, celery, fennel, green apple and lime is my go-to green juice.
Favorite green salad…
Arugula, romaine, chopped endive, cucumbers, tomatoes, avocado and minced
celery or radish with a dressing of olive oil, lemon and pink salt
Go-to quick, healthy meal, prepared at home…
A macro plate: brown or wild rice, seared yucca, steamed greens and
broccoli,
sautéed trumpet mushrooms or lentils and sesame salt
Healthy meal when you’re on the go…
Sweetgreen or
East Village Organic for the best vegan soup in town!
Go-to healthy delivery…
Favorite way to get moving…
Ballet
Beautiful or a session with my
trainer Jess Movold
Favorite green beauty products…
Eminence face masks. I like to slather one on and soak in the tub. I'm
also a
Joanna Vargas devotee and love her serums and cleansers.
Currently watching…
Seinfeld — always — and The Assassination of Gianni
Versace (Penelope!!!!!)
Listening to…
My baby cooing, humming, snorting and squeaking
Reading…
Breastfeeding forums! And Nurture by Erica Chidi Cohen.
Guilty pleasure…
Television!
Dream spring break location…
The next Tulum... wherever that is. Somewhere close with an amazing beach
and
a simple but beautiful hotel like Coqui
Coqui. And good fruit!
