Our summer interns on life and lessons learned at Tory HQ

Sophie Harris
Hamilton College

A typical day for me involves…
Whether I spend the morning researching subjects for our blog or pulling looks for an upcoming photo shoot, no two days are ever alike!

This was my dream summer job because…
I’ve been able to be a part of the production cycle, from inspiration to product development and sales.

The most important thing I’ve learned so far…
Grace under pressure is one of the most important qualities one can have.

And the most fun thing I’ve done so far…
Sit in on the creative meetings, work on hands-on projects and contribute to decisions.

The best thing about being an intern here…
The environment and the people! It is a remarkable thing to be greeted by the Vice President as you walk down the hallway.

Margaret Lefton
Skidmore College

A typical day for me involves…
In the mornings you can either find me researching photos for the blog or in the sample closet pulling looks to send out for a photo shoot. During my downtime I’ll research ideas for new blog posts.

This was my dream summer job because…
I am inspired by every part of this company. I love looking through the various seasons of clothes and the infinite patterns and prints the company has designed. Getting to walk through the design studio daily and see the designers at work is amazing. Tory herself has long been a role model to me as a businesswoman and mom.

The most important thing I’ve learned so far…
Is to be a self-starter. There’s always something to be done. Learn to anticipate the needs of those around you.

And the most fun thing I’ve done so far…
I had the opportunity to work on a special project compiling artists, photographers and more. It’s been exciting seeing it slowly come to fruition and watching my selects become potential features.

The best thing about being an intern here…
Getting to work alongside a large community of interns. It’s fun to hear their stories, from PR to design to the legal team. Everyone is passionate about their work and always friendly and open.
